Heading West – “I’m Praying for Rain”

Another song reference as we leave Michigan today for our longest trip yet (two months – 7500 miles). We are so excited, have planned and looked forward to this for a long time. We are being reminded that we cannot out plan Mother Nature, so we are cautiously watching the wildfire situation in the west; particularly Oregon and northern California.

In the mean time, this is the song playing in my head, thanks to one of our favorites – Don Henley:

“I ain’t no wise man
But I’m no fool
I believe that Mother Nature
Has taken us to school
Maybe we just took too much
Or put too little back
It isn’t knowledge
It’s humility we lack

I’m prayin’ for rain
I’m prayin’ for rain”

We have made one adjustment to our northern California route to avoid the raging Dixie fire. Lassen Volcanic National Park is closed as well as roads in that area. Easy enough to adjust it now and we will still be able to go to the Red Woods and travel south to Yosemite National Park.

We loved our time in Michigan this summer. Lots of good times and fun with friends and family; makes it bittersweet to leave every year!

Have a great, safe trip. Looks like a great route! Looking forward to updates. We need to get together in SW Fla again this winter. Looks like Melissa and Randy will have a short stay this year. She’s very excited to be grandma

Godspeed, Jim & Debbie, as you head West on your Big Adventure! Can’t wait to ‘follow’ your travels on your blog. Randy and I have just moved to Winston-Salem — still unpacking boxes! — but already loving it! Best, always.
