Stay at Home Orders when “Home is Where You Park It”

What day is it anyway?  Since our last post in March, like everyone, COVID-19 has ruled almost every decision we make. We have to stop and think what day it is; it is unsettling.

We are planners that cannot plan.  However, we are safe and healthy, so no complaints here. Thank you to my sister, Sylvia, for the care package – homemade face masks and hand sanitizer!

My tax season work came to an abrupt end when I was furloughed at the end of March.  With tax deadlines extended and many business clients closed and/or pulling back on having work done at this time, the company furloughed/laid off several staff.  Hopefully I will return later this year, or next tax season.

Leaving Florida

We left Florida at the end of March for North Carolina.  It took some searching, but we were able to find a private park south of Apex, NC, near our daughter, for five weeks.

The RV Park turned out to be mostly occupied by contract workers brought in to work on a huge Duke Energy construction project in the area.

Nothing fancy, but the park provided full hookups with nice spacing between sites; we were thankful since all State parks remained closed and other private parks were also closed or full.

Moncure, NC

With a very reasonable monthly fee, it served our purpose to spend the time with our two year old granddaughter while her parents were required to work from home with no daycare.

American Tobacco Trail Apex NC

We were able to get outside and enjoy the nice Spring weather. Even though parks and playgrounds were closed, trails and walkways were open, including the American Tobacco Trail.

Getting ready to leave North Carolina at the beginning of May, we were not able to travel to Maryland at this time.  Considering all the restrictions and the RV park we stay at near our other daughter’s closed, we headed north.

REV/Fleetwood Tech Center

With a May appointment on the books since January, we headed to the  REV/Fleetwood factory in Decatur, IN for some warranty work on the Discovery XLE.  Nothing major, but after hearing very good things from other Fleetwood Discovery owners, we decided we wanted to have the work done at the factory.

After staying at the factory technical center for several days, with good results on the work done, we were ready to get going – next stop Michigan.  Even though the State is still pretty much shut down, we are able to pull into our summer spot at Indian Creek Campground near Tecumseh.  It was determined that we met the exemption to be allowed into the campground (being full-timers and having a self-contained RV).  Even with everything that is going on with COVID-19; it felt good to be back in Michigan.

Now, as we get into the second week of May, it appears some states are starting to open up. The campground in Maryland has been allowed to open and Indiana was scheduled to open some businesses and restaurants (with some restrictions) next week. However, a recent announcement leaves Michigan pretty much shut down until at least the end of May.

RV Travel Notes: With the current low fuel prices, it seems our discount with the EFS Card was even better. We purchased diesel at Loves in Virginia for $1.37/gallon and in Indiana for $1.68/gallon after the discount. By far the lowest prices we have paid.

We cancelled our reservations for the trip to Montana scheduled for late June/July. With all the uncertainty and money tied up in deposits, we decided to cancel. All parks and activities (guided hikes) were very accommodating in returning deposits with no penalty.

Now it looks like we will be able to make a trip to Maryland soon and we decided to keep one of our reservations in Colorado. We would like to see if we can make a return trip to one of our favorites, Golden Colorado in late June. The park in Golden is open and we don’t need much else open to enjoy time there; just a little Rocky Mountain high!

Hopefully the picture of the year ahead will soon become clearer and we will be able to make additional plans. For now we are content looking forward to our time in Michigan, trip to Maryland, AND, we will be heading to NC for a longer stay in September for the arrival of a new baby – granddaughter #5!!!
